Lutherans For Life strives to educate our youth on life issues based on the Word of God. Sexual purity before marriage is part of our message. It is to that end that we encourage all Lutheran congregations to participate in our annual Purity Pick-a-Project contest. We feel this format gives students the opportunity to LEARN God’s truth as revealed in His Word, to INTERNALIZE that truth, and then COMMUNICATE that truth to their peers, using their own particular talents.

This format also provides the opportunity for your congregation to host a ‘Purity Event’. The audio-visual projects and performances can be shared with parents, classmates, and other church members. Some congregations already host events which focus on the presentation of their students’ essays [eg…a brunch following the Sunday services where each student reads his/her essay]. The Purity Pick-a-Project contest will provide additional opportunities to exhibit each student’s individuality and creativity.

Pastor, teachers, or youth leaders may present this contest to their 7th and 8th grade students…the choice is yours. We ask that you choose the best project from your congregation and send it to us for judging by February 15. It is important that you send only one project from your congregation, but that you applaud the efforts of ALL the students who participate. If the project is too big to send, a photograph and description may be sent. If it is a performance, an audio or videotape [or CD] can be mailed. For further information or questions about judging the projects, please call Kathy Reither at [586] 412-9246.

We pray that this contest will be a useful tool in teaching your youth God’s plan for using the gift of sexuality with which He has blessed them.
